Under the supervision of the GIS Manager, performs technical work of considerable difficulty in the development and maintenance of GIS systems and interactive applications within the City. Responsibilities include extensive project management, analyzing user requirements, and the creation, integration and maintenance of web-based interactive GIS applications integrating GIS layers and City databases. Work is performed dependently under general direction.
1. Oversees the maintenance and integrity of enterprise GIS database and execute
related changes to associated schema.
2. Create customized mapping processes to automate map production using
ArcGIS desktop and Web GIS software.
3. Conduct user needs assessments and recommends implementation of GIS
solutions and standards.
4. Designs, develops and maintains GIS applications that meet business
requirements, mining the GIS database to create end-user-friendly work products.
5. Integrates the City’s GIS database into vendor supplied solutions.
6. Develop and maintain skills as necessary to keep current with GIS technology and professional best practices.
7. Develop and utilize project management tools and techniques to facilitate the completion of assigned GIS projects.
8. Participates on software selection and implementation, including software evaluation, requirements gathering, work flow analysis and system implementation, testing and training
9. Conduct in-house training when necessary.

Broward County is seeking a creative, dedicated, and dynamic individual to join a progressive team as part of the Energy and Sustainability Program with Broward County’s Environmental Planning and Community Resilience Division.
This is an advanced professional position providing technical expertise and planning support in a fast-paced environment. This position plays an important role in the county’s climate change mitigation and adaptation initiatives and supports regional planning for resilience in the areas of energy, water, transportation, public infrastructure and natural systems. This position provides technical evaluations and project management to inform policy and planning activities on a county-wide scale and works with visualization tools to effectively evaluate and communicate the impacts of climate change and benefits of adaptation strategies. The successful candidate will also participate in the identification and pursuit of grant funding, provide contract management, and support the County’s Climate Change Task Force. Work requires interagency collaborations, independent research, project ownership and accountability. Work is reviewed through regular meetings, reports and assignments.
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in engineering, environmental science, hydrology, or related field; 2 years experience related to environmental protection/planning, climate mitigation/adaptation planning and/or the work in the area of sustainability.
Must have excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, expertise in GIS, and strong presentation skills. Must be highly motivated and creative; enjoy working as a team; and have superior organizational skills. The preferred candidate will be familiar with climate pressures, the South Florida landscape, infrastructure design, transportation systems, water resources, coastal processes, renewable energy, and energy efficiency. Programming, script writing and web or mobile application development skills are preferred.

The Broward County Energy and Sustainability Program will be hiring a Natural Resources Specialist I for a 10-12 month period to complete the requirements of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant.
Work involves administrative support of the County’s internal, community-wide and regional climate initiatives. This may include supporting logistics, record keeping, energy conservation outreach and research on green practices. Work also requires the ability to be responsible for project assignments, to use sound judgment and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and internet protocols required. Experience with GIS ArcView software and familiarity with climate change issues and energy conservation is preferred.

- GIS Technician
- The GIS Technician will be responsible for GIS database development, Spatial Analysis, and Map Production in an ESRI ArcGIS environment to ensure a successful Enterprise GIS implementation.
Position Roles & Responsibilities:
- Compiles geographic data from a variety of sources including censuses, field observation, satellite imagery, aerial photographs.
- Gathers, analyzes and integrates spatial data from staff and determine how best the information can be displayed using GIS.
- Designs and update databases, applying additional knowledge of spatial feature representations.
- Enters new map data by direct input of coordinate information using the principles of cartography including coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography and map scales.
- A strong understanding and mastery of land survey principles and legal descriptions including metes and bounds and Public Land Survey System (PLSS).
- Designs and creates special map and digital products as assigned using predefined procedures, knowledge of GIS data and required GIS skills.
Education & Skills Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in geography, information systems, information technology, land planning, or urban & regional planning.
- Required experience of at least 2 years with ESRI ArcGIS
- Experience and/or academic work in one or more fields applicable to GIS applications including land resources, land planning, land records, environmental resource management.
- High proficiency in communication, written, oral and cartographic skills – the ability to convey GIS spatial information to non-GIS users.

Job Description: The Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of Florida Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center in Davie, Florida is seeking an enthusiastic individual to work as part of a multi-agency team engaged in research in support of Everglades ecology and restoration.
Duties Include: This individual will be the primary GIS/Remote Sensing specialist in a research group that includes scientists and managers from the University of Florida, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Geological Survey, and the National Park Service. The individual will assist in ongoing projects that monitor and assess responses of the Greater Everglades system to ecological restoration, evaluate the distribution and effects of invasive species in the region, and forecast the possible effects of climate change on endangered species. Specific duties will include (1) compiling geospatial data from collaborators, online warehouses and in-house field data; (2) extensive QA/QC of data; (3) geospatial analysis using ArcGIS, R and other open source tools and software; (4) preparing metadata and developing/documenting protocols used in data analysis; (5) assisting colleagues in the preparation of proposals, project reports, and peer-reviewed publications and (6) maintaining ongoing communication with collaborators across a diverse range of government agencies and research institutions.
This is a full time position with an initial one-year appointment. Ongoing employment will be dependent on performance and funding.
Qualifications: Applicant should have at least a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in geography, ecology, environmental science, or related field and at least one year of GIS experience. Applicant must be able to work well independently and with others in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience using GIS to support ecological research, be proficient in ArcGIS and have experience in R, and have excellent written and oral communication skills. Technical writing, problem solving and organizational skills are essential. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States and have all paperwork completed prior to accepting the position.
Salary: $15.00-20.00/hour depending on experience
